Additional Details

Throughout high school:
-Varsity Tennis
-Participated in a few clubs (Mock Trial, Spanish National Honor Society, Fed Challenge, tutoring)
-I've played 2 instruments (guitar and piano) for nearly 12 years now
-Won some school and regional awards
-Did some community service (more tutoring, volunteer camp counselor)

Grade trend sucks because I missed a lot of school Junior year due to family-related issues. I think I would've had at least a 3.9 and been ranked in the top 5% if it weren't for that. Oh well. Also, I'm actually biracial (half black and half white), so I put down both races on all of my applications.

Comments: Third/Fourth. 2/4/10- Interviewed. Went pretty well, had a 40 minute informal conversation with an alum. 3/18/10- Likely letter. 4/1/10- Officially admitted and will most likely attend. 4/5/10- Wow financial aid is shit. Now I'm not sure whether I can actually go here or not. 4/22/10- My family appealed the financial aid decision and the appeal was rejected. Still thinking about going here though. Taking into consideration flying costs to get to Chicago, the price winds up being roughly the same. 4/24/10- Deposit is being sent on Monday :) 6/29/10- Received my summer reading book, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" With it are some study questions that will be discussed during orientation week. I'm also supposed to write a 1 page essay on one, which will be part of a 2014 essay contest in which I could win $200 to spend on books. Pretty neat.

Comments: Fifth/Sixth. 3/19/10- Accepted. Unfortunately, the financial aid they're offering isn't good enough. My family would still be paying roughly 28k/year, which we just can't afford. Probably won't attend. 3/27/10- My admissions counselor sent me a hand-written note stating how much she loved the 2 essays I sent Chicago. One was on the first time I found out Santa isn't real and the other was about my inability to whistle. It was a really nice touch for her to let me know one of the reasons she loved my application and it's a shame I couldn't get better aid from them. 3/29/10- They sent me a U Chicago scarf too :( 4/24/10- Chose Cornell over here. I had talked to a student who goes here who graduated from my high school last year and he said the social life is complete garbage and the girls leave much to be desired. It might have better academics than Cornell, but I doubt the difference will be noticeable enough to justify going where "fun goes to die".

Comments: Fifth/Sixth. 3/26/10- Accepted. Considering its location and the unsubstantial financial aid Chicago is offering, Wesleyan has been bumped up into my top 4 or 5. I'm really considering going here.

Comments: Second choice. 2/11/10- Amazing interview. 4/1/10- Rejected. Very disappointed. What was especially surprising was that I sent the same essays to Brown as I did to Chicago, and my Chicago admissions counselor absolutely loved my essays. Guess it goes to show you how subjective college admissions are.
