early decision

Obviously the early decision selection will factor a higher chance of acceptance, regardless of what some software indicates.

In essence, Wash U., Univ. of Chicago and Northwestern are the midwest schools that compete for the best and brightest. They will indeed offer acceptance priority to those who qualify, and state their preference in early decision.

my thoughts

Maybe the ED number went down because even though the applicant pool is smaller, it is likely to be more qualified and interested in the school (as would be implied by applying ED). This would mean that the school would be their first choice and would put forth their best effort on their ED app. This is just a theory-I agree that I think the chance should increase, at least a little if any, but the reasons I listed above could be factors.
