I live in CA. Knew I was accepted nearly a month before "official acceptance" because I was invited to apply to the School of Medicine (only 12 kids max get accepted a year). Will re-update with verdict on the SoM!

Enormous but supposedly good. Got a gorgeous library where I imagine I'd spend a lot of time, plus great oceanography/marine biology.

Free Application, honestly wouldn't go.
They lost my application, I decided not to call it in because I've had enough bullshit from the UC system, it's too big of a system and cannot serve individual needs. I probably would've gotten rejected and if accepted, wouldn't have gone anyway.

3/14/09- Michigan OOS but no UCSD in state? O well, still wishing for UCLA and UCB.
3/16/09- Called the admissions office, and found out that I got 7326 points when the cutoff was 7738 for this year. I didn't get any points for special circumstances, which I based my entire essay on, and it would have given me 500 points if they did give me points for special circumstances.

Again, it was the GPA. Another thing that hurts my chances is the UC system for calculating GPA. Based on that, my GPA goes down by at least a tenth of a point.

I don't really like the whole college system altogether. I heard people at UCSD are more academically focused, whereas kids at schools like UCLA are a bit more social. They're strong in sciences, which wasn't what I wanted to major in. The GEs are also a bit confusing.

This school was a lot more exciting once I visited it and fully understood what it was: Excellent. I also am very happy with the close acquaintances i know who got in as well. I love the small colleges.
